Spider's Spiral with Datura Blossom in Sterling Silver
Watching a few hardy spiders create their webs within my datura plants this Fall, I found a new appreciation for the ingenuity of spiders and their heroic quest to ensnare evening pollinators flitting about the moonlit blossoms.
This pendant is inspired by the spider's steady toil of weaving her own universe while appearing to dance gracefully in midair.
Severing threads that no longer serve, strengthening the ties that matter most, creating her own world each day anew, this is the spider. It seems to me, the arachnid would be the perfect familiar to the shadow worker, someone spending their time examining their own life threads and reweaving a new path forward, integrating all aspects of their self to become someone new.
The datura's whorl is referenced by the web's spiral. This pendant is also paired with a hand carved datura blossom and leaves. The datura is a plant beloved by many midnight garden witches and poison path followers. Herbalists and light work practitioners look to datura as a supporting character in working with the shadow self. I feel the spider and shadow self are rather similar, each creates an entire world and both are often unseen and unexamined.
Let this be a personal talisman for your own personal growth, rich in our secret symbology.
Cast in solid sterling silver the web is roughly 2" in diameter and is suspended on a delicate 18" chain. See second image for example when worn.
Artist's Note: The work I bring to you is conceived and created entirely in my Austin Texas studio. It is infused with inspiration from my deep connection and appreciation of Nature, combined with my curiosity, and a desire to honor the balance of dark and light within each of us. Each piece I craft reflects quality, artisanship, and just a touch of magic.
