Description: In 1949 Peter Hvidt and Mølgaard-Nielsen designed the "Ax" chair which became the best known design of their entire careers. The Ax chair was manufactured by Fritz Hansen in several different variations. Offered here is the more unusual and difficult to find armless version. The Ax chair was exhibited in 1951 as part of the "Good Design" show sponsored by the MoMA. This chair is not currently being reproduced and the armless versions rarely come to market. The chair is very comfortable for long term seating due to the slight incline towards the rear of the chair. Austin Modern is pleased to offer this rare design icon of the Danish Modern movement.
